Woman suffers serious injuries after being hit by a train at Margate station

Emergency services are on the scene after a woman was hit by a train at Margate station.

Ambulance, police and fire crews are at the station, which has been evacuated, and an air ambulance landed on Margate main sands.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “A woman has been taken to hospital after she was struck by a train at Margate station this afternoon. Officers from British Transport Police and Kent Police were called to the station shortly before 2.30pm.

“Officers are now working to identify the woman to inform her family. Her injuries are believed to be serious,
“This incident is not being treated as suspicious. There are no other reported injuries relating to this incident.”

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police officers are currently assisting with an incident at Margate railway station.

“The British Transport Police is overseeing the incident.”

A spokesman for Kent air ambulance said: “At about 2.35pm to today, Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance was called to a transport incident in Margate.”

Replacement bus services are running between Ramsgate and Faversham while crews deal with the incident.
