Iconic Drop and Roll tour set to headline Ramsgate’s Spring Spectacular event

The Drop and Roll tour is coming to Ramsgate

An iconic cycle stunt performance team will be showing off their skills in Ramsgate.

The Drop and Roll Tour, headed by Danny MacAskill, will be the centre-piece of a huge, free family event on Bank Holiday Monday, May 29 at Government Acre.

Drop And Roll was launched in 2014, when Danny, from the Isle of Skye, teamed up with top street trial riders and friends, Duncan Shaw, Alastair Clarkson and Fabio Wibmer from Austria.

The team now take their jaw-dropping skills to audiences around the globe. With over 950,000 Facebook likes and 250,000,000 YouTube views, Danny has a massive following – and some 10,000 spectators are expected to arrive for the Ramsgate event. Visitors at the Spring Spectacular will see choreographed trials displays, including transitions, jumps and technical trials riding with commentary.

The event will include shows at 11.30am and 2pm in a dedicated Cycle Zone where visitors can watch out for watch out for “Fakie Nose Manuals”, “Flairs” and “Footjam Tailwhips.”

There will also be a chance for fans to get autographs and buy Drop and Roll merchandise from the team at 12.15pm and 2.45pm.

Danny will then take part in a question and answer session from 4pm.

Chat with stunt cyclists Danny and Duncan

Danny told us: “Expect lots of hops, gaps, jumps and flips and loads of fun!

“I try to ride almost every day. Sometimes we ride together as a team and then others I ride solo listening to music through my headphones to help me get creative and learn new things.

“For me it all started after seeing some Trials Riding in Magazines. After I saw this I would modify my old mountain bikes to make them as suitable as possible for trials riding.

“Over the years, I have had a few broken bones. My most common break would have to be my collarbone. I have broken it 4 times.”

Duncan added: “I have always loved bikes and used to love riding around town with my friends riding down stairs and making sketchy ramps. One day we bumped into some older guys doing a new sport called “Trials” and I have been hooked ever since.

“I haven’t actually been to Ramsgate before but I looked it up when we confirmed the show and it looks like an awesome place. It’s always good to go to somewhere new and meet the locals. Without fail, everywhere we go we our given such warm welcomes so I am sure Ramsgate will be no different.”

Top prize

Visitors to the event will get the chance to scoop an Inspired Flow Plus 24 inch street bike which is the top raffle prize in the day.

The bike, worth £600, gives riders of all experience levels the opportunity to progress their riding ability and bike handling skills.

Raffle tickets will be just £1 each or 6 for £5 to be purchased on the day of the event from the Defence of the Nation Museum gazebo. All proceeds of the raffle will go to the RNLI.
