Kent food and drink on offer at the Broadstairs Spring Festival

Get ready for Broadstairs Food Festival

The magnolias are fit to burst, gardens yellow-fringed with daffodils, lambs are in the fields – yes, Spring is most in definitely in the air. And that means the very welcome return of the Broadstairs Spring Fair.

Baby sister to the October Food Festival, the three-day event brings together a collection of local and county food and drink producers. Now in its fourth year, the fair is an early calender event –  drawing in visitors from across Thanet to enjoy the very best from the ‘Garden of England’, April 15 to April 17.

Open from 10am, each day, (with free entry) there will be plenty of opportunities for visitors to sample local craft beers and ciders, indulge in the epicurean delights on offer, including breads, cheeses, preserves and hot foods, and join in a celebration of Kent’s culinary treasures.

Several of the exhibitors are Taste Of Kent award winners, including Stour Valley Game, Kent Oils and Crisps, Anno Distillers and Cheesemakers of Canterbury. Joining them are Gourmand Farms, serving their own sausages and mash from their uniquely converted shepherds’ hut.

Easter wouldn’t be Easter, to children, without chocolate eggs so that is exactly what the winners’ prizes will be for the decorated Bonnet competition,  Monday 17 April.Judging at 2.30pm.

The fair’s position at the top of the town, well-served by the Loop bus service and the railway station, offers a good springboard to exploring the High Street, lined with independent shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. Broadstairs can proudly boast to be home to the Taste of Kent Food Producer of 2017 – Bessie’s Tea Parlour, Albion Street . . . but if it’s an afternoon tea you seeking it is advisable to book.

Over 12,000 people visit the festival – with many staying for the whole three days, taking the chance to enjoy the delights of this seaside town.
