Six people have been taken to hospital following a serious crash on the A299 Thanet Way today (April 1).

Two women were flown to hospital by air ambulance, one to King’s hospital and the other to St George’s, and another four were taken by land ambulance.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a collision involving a lorry and two cars between St Nicholas and Herne Bay on the London-bound carriageway at 2pm.

A number of passengers of the vehicles were trapped and  fire crews worked with other emergency services to free them.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a serious crash on the A299 Thanet Way involving a lorry and two cars. Crews worked alongside colleagues from the air ambulance and SECAmb to assess conditions and then, using heavy rescue cutting equipment cut free a number of passengers in one of the vehicles after they’d become trapped by their injuries.
