A man has been charged with a rape in Ramsgate after being extradited to Kent from Italy.

Earlier this year Rafiullah Hamidy, 24, was detained in Taranto, in the Apulia region of southern Italy, after Kent Police secured a European Arrest Warrant.

He was returned to the UK following an extradition hearing and taken into custody after arriving at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday 28 March.

Mr Hamidy, formerly of High Street, Herne Bay, has been charged with raping a woman in the Northwood Road area of Ramsgate last September.

He is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court today (  March 29).
